It looks like the popularity of particular books and movies are continuing to influence expecting parents when they choose a baby name these days. Some of the most popular baby names, and those quickly rising in popularity can definitely be traced to the latest in pop culture. The current top names can be traced to Twilight, The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and Pretty Little Liars. In fact, currently the top two names are Isabella and Jacob. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Check out more from Clevver TV and Name Berry below:

Thanks Noor!

Quite honestly my daughter came pretty close to becoming Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings. I was pretty set on that name for a daughter long before I ever even thought about having kids. She didn’t end up an Éowyn, and her given name definitely suits her, but it was a close one. I think if a certain author or character resonates with you and sticks with you in life, there can be some real meaning in giving that name to a baby. On the other hand, if it’s just a passing fade and you end up not even caring about that character, book or movie a few months later… perhaps you should have thought longer on your baby name!

What do you think of naming your children from characters in books and movies that you love?

‘Twilight’ Still Influences the Top Baby Names with Isabella and Jacob

Posted May 5th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

TIME Magazine is bringing us the story that The Social Security Administration has put out their list of the top baby names in the United States again, and the list clearly shows that Twilight continues to have an influence on new baby names. While they acknowledge that the name Jacob was growing in popularity before Twilight, it’s taken a big jump to number one for two years. Meanwhile the name Isabella, not having made the list in recent history, has been number one for the last two years thanks of course to our Bella Swan. Read more below:

Phenomena such as Twilight and Teen Mom have shown the true, semi-shocking breadth of their influence in the government’s analysis of baby-naming last year.

Isabella and Jacob, names of the female protagonist and her handsome werewolf from Twilight, reign supreme on the list for the second straight year. (Sorry, Team Edward.) True, Twilight’s Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner — i.e. the first actor you think of when wondering whose abs you could do your laundry on — isn’t entirely responsible for the popularity of the name. We know this because that appellation has been in the Top 10 for the past 12 years, but this is only Isabella’s second year to make the cut in recent history, arguably courtesy of author Stephenie Meyer.

The list is put out by the Social Security Administration (who has to have something fun to do with all those birth records), and they have a feature which shows the change in the popularity for names, giving some limelight to those who did well for themselves without making it into the Top 10. The two with the biggest jumps were Maci and Bentley, just like the young mother and young son featured on Teen Mom, following their stint on 16 and Pregnant. Another fast-riser was Knox, the name of one of those seemingly thousands of kids in Brangelina’s family entourage. Tiana, the name of the princess in The Princess and the Frog, saw a surge, as did Kellan, a name shared by Kellan Lutz, another actor from Twilight.

Wow, it’s incredible that Isabella became so popular with Twilight!
