Posted April 13th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

It looks like the popularity of particular books and movies are continuing to influence expecting parents when they choose a baby name these days. Some of the most popular baby names, and those quickly rising in popularity can definitely be traced to the latest in pop culture. The current top names can be traced to Twilight, The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and Pretty Little Liars. In fact, currently the top two names are Isabella and Jacob. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Check out more from Clevver TV and Name Berry below:

Thanks Noor!

Quite honestly my daughter came pretty close to becoming Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings. I was pretty set on that name for a daughter long before I ever even thought about having kids. She didn’t end up an Éowyn, and her given name definitely suits her, but it was a close one. I think if a certain author or character resonates with you and sticks with you in life, there can be some real meaning in giving that name to a baby. On the other hand, if it’s just a passing fade and you end up not even caring about that character, book or movie a few months later… perhaps you should have thought longer on your baby name!

What do you think of naming your children from characters in books and movies that you love?

‘Beavis and Butt-head’ Take on ‘Twilight’

Posted October 29th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

I’m sure you’ve noticed that Beavis and Butt-head are back and of course, this time around, leaving no corner of pop culture safe. In their latest episode “Werewolves of Highland” the famous duo decide there might be something to Twilight and all that supernatural stuff after all. Check out more below:

Here is where last night’s long-awaited “Beavis and Butt-Head” premiere enters the picture. I grew up with these guys, imitated them countless times and follow every move creator Mike Judge makes. (So, yes, in addition to being a Twi-Hard, I’m also a Butt-Hard.) When I heard “Twilight” would be skewered in the show’s return, I winced. Not because Beavis and Butt-Head were going rip on it, they rip on everything. My concern was they’d rehash the same jokes we’ve already heard.

But ladies and dudeslemen, Mike Judge and company rose to the challenge. Sure, Beavis and Butt-Head say “Twilight” sucks, they think most things suck, but they recognize attractive girls like it. Pretending to like “Twilight” for the sake of getting women is a joke that’s been made a thousand times. But this is where the show brings it to a new level. The guys actually attempt to become werewolves to get girls. They find a homeless man, who in their minds clearly looks like a werewolf, and ask him to bite them. He obliges and the boys are left to endure what they believe is the “transformation.” The sickness they’re actually feeling is hepatitis.

While I’m sure many Twi-Hards will condemn the show for mocking our love, I’d like to commend Beavis and Butt-Head for revealing themselves as hardcore Twi-Hards. Never mind the intention behind it, they were willing to be bitten by a homeless man in hopes they’d turn into a supernatural beast. How many of us have gone that far?

I got a pretty good laugh out of this one, but I remember these two goobers from the first time around, and still manage to like them.

Kristen Stewart on ‘Breaking Dawn’, Marriage and ‘Twilight’ in Pop Culture

Posted September 9th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

The beautiful Kristen Stewart spoke with the German station TELE 5 recently on a variety of subjects, including of course her experience with Breaking Dawn, how she thinks Twilight has affected today’s pop culture and what she personally thinks of marriage. Read more below:

TELE 5: How will the ‘Twilight movies’ effect pop culture movies?

Kristen Stewart: People will never forget Twilight. Movies that stick with you like that are rare. And we have inspired many new films. Hopefully I’m going to be able to be part of a few.

TELE5: Tell us a little bit of ‘Breaking Dawn’. There’s a wedding, honeymoon …

Kristen: It was great to play this unshakable love. Previously there have been moments where you had to wonder if the two will make it. This time around, they are incredibly close, like a family. Bella and Edward are not only lovers, but deeply connected. They’re married, it’s done. And it’s great to see how they cope with their problems. The crisis, if they are going to have their child or not. Bella has never been so vulnerable. And he has never been so angry. This time around everything is a little more serious and somber.

Bill Condon on ‘Breaking Dawn’: Edward and Jacob Represent “Rooting for the Noble Monster”

Posted July 20th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

USA Today has a great article about Comic Con and how the heroes we dress up as and look forward to seeing at the event really reflect the current culture. Bill Condon weighs in on Breaking Dawn and why he thinks we root so strongly for both Edward and Jacob. Check out more below:

Each generation seems to produce heroes that reflect the times and audiences’ views of themselves, and it will be no different this week at Comic-Con, the annual pop-culture convention kicking off Thursday in San Diego.
More than 125,000 fans will descend upon the Convention Center for four days, dressing up like their heroes, which this year will include vampires, werewolves, zombie-killers and demon-hunters featured in recent and forthcoming comic books, TV shows, movies and video games.

Some of the heroes they’ll see touted at the several hundred panels and presentations are new, while some are inspired by classic protagonists. But all seem to relate to today’s society.

The undead men of True Blood, as well as vampire Edward Cullen and lovelorn werewolf Jacob Black in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight book series, have become key heroes in pop culture, especially to women. Bill Condon, director of the final two Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn, Part I (out Nov. 18) and Part II (Nov. 16, 2012), sees Cullen and Black as part of a long tradition of rooting for the noble monster, dating to the original Frankenstein film in 1931.

“We’ve always had a complicated relationship toward monsters. Don’t you feel like in every Dracula movie, you’re sort of wanting him to get away with it?” Condon says, laughing.

New Stills of Ashley Greene in ‘Skateland’

Posted February 16th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

We have some new stills of Ashley Greene’s Skateland to share with you tonight! You’ve seen the trailer, now enjoy some new stills featuring Ashley and her costar, Shiloh Fernandez. Skateland comes out next month on March 25th. See more below:

Ritchie Wheeler (Fernandez), Michelle Burkham (Greene), and wise-cracking lady-killer Kenny Crawford (Taylor Handley) struggle with the collapse of their tumultuous home lives, the alcohol-induced idling of reckless adolescence, and the wane of their hometown hangout, the local roller rink. A story syncopated with moments of violent turbulence, of heartbreak and of new beginnings, Skateland shows the brutal, but beautiful vastness of East Texas blue skies and the emotional claustrophobia of the Bible belt. Skateland is a place where aging values wrestle with contemporary pop culture to create a paradoxical balance between old and new.
