MTV Asks “Is ‘Twilight’ Really Over?”

Posted June 8th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

In light of recent comments made by Stephenie Meyer, Kristen Stewart and the now infamous Lionsgate executive, MTV is asking - “Is Twilight really over”?” See what you think of their reasoning below:

“I’ve been promoting ‘Snow White,’ and I get asked a lot of questions, especially about ‘Twilight,’ which I love. The most common one is like, ‘God, you must be so happy to get away from it. You must be so happy to just distance yourself from that as far away as you possibly can.’ I’m just like, ‘Shut up! What are you talking about?’ ”

Earlier this year, the chief executive of Lionsgate Entertainment, Jon Feltheimer, said he believes the vampire saga will remain valuable after the November 16 release of “Breaking Dawn - Part 2.” When asked if his company would helm any future “Twilight” projects, he said, “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy, I hope so.’ ”

The film company’s co-chair, Rob Friedman, also commented on the franchise’s future, telling The Hollywood Reporter Lionsgate will be onboard if author Stephenie Meyer moves forward with the saga. “If she wishes to do it,” he said, “we’ll be there to support her.”

When MTV News caught up with Meyer on the set of her latest project, “The Host,” we asked if Edward, Bella and Jacob will be brought to life again — in print or onscreen. Her answer gave hope to “Twilight” fans everywhere when she revealed she already has the characters’ futures in mind.

“Things change so much from week to week, let alone year to year. I mean, there are other stories,” she said. “I have a really hard time putting down characters, and so I know what would happen.”

We’ve got some very exciting news on the day before our Breaking Dawn - Part 1 DVD comes out! The Los Angeles Times is reporting that we’ll be seeing a trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 in previews before The Hunger Games on it’s opening weekend. Just like we thought, with the newly merged Summit and Lionsgate companies, they’re hoping that by combining Twilight and Hunger Games fans, The Hunger Games will have an awesome opening weekend. Read all of the details below:

The trailer for the fifth and final “Twilight” movie, “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” will debut exclusively on “The Hunger Games” in March — the first significant example of synergy between Lions Gate Entertainment and its new subsidiary Summit Entertainment.

When the studio acquired Summit in January, Lions Gate executives touted the opportunities that would come from bringing together two of Hollywood’s hottest young adult franchises. Because fans tend to get excited about seeing the first trailer for a highly anticipated sequel, Lions Gate is betting it can bring the huge base of “Twilight” fans to the opening weekend of “The Hunger Games,” which debuts March 23.

“‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2′ trailer will debut exclusively on every ‘Hunger Games’ print on its opening night for what will be Lions Gate’s largest release ever,” Santa Monica-based Lions Gate’s chief executive Jon Feltheimer said on a conference call with analysts Friday following the release of its financial results.

The ink has barely dried on the new contract that merges Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, and already Gossip Cop is bringing us a story from the chief executive officer over at Lionsgate. There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November.

The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday.

“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration.”

He added, “So the simple answer is, ‘Boy, I hope so.’”
