MTV Asks “Is ‘Twilight’ Really Over?”

Posted June 8th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

In light of recent comments made by Stephenie Meyer, Kristen Stewart and the now infamous Lionsgate executive, MTV is asking - “Is Twilight really over”?” See what you think of their reasoning below:

“I’ve been promoting ‘Snow White,’ and I get asked a lot of questions, especially about ‘Twilight,’ which I love. The most common one is like, ‘God, you must be so happy to get away from it. You must be so happy to just distance yourself from that as far away as you possibly can.’ I’m just like, ‘Shut up! What are you talking about?’ ”

Earlier this year, the chief executive of Lionsgate Entertainment, Jon Feltheimer, said he believes the vampire saga will remain valuable after the November 16 release of “Breaking Dawn - Part 2.” When asked if his company would helm any future “Twilight” projects, he said, “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy, I hope so.’ ”

The film company’s co-chair, Rob Friedman, also commented on the franchise’s future, telling The Hollywood Reporter Lionsgate will be onboard if author Stephenie Meyer moves forward with the saga. “If she wishes to do it,” he said, “we’ll be there to support her.”

When MTV News caught up with Meyer on the set of her latest project, “The Host,” we asked if Edward, Bella and Jacob will be brought to life again — in print or onscreen. Her answer gave hope to “Twilight” fans everywhere when she revealed she already has the characters’ futures in mind.

“Things change so much from week to week, let alone year to year. I mean, there are other stories,” she said. “I have a really hard time putting down characters, and so I know what would happen.”

Summit Entertainment Identifies Possible ‘Breaking Dawn’ Pirates

Posted August 2nd, 2011 By: Evie 4 Comments »

Big news today regarding that Breaking Dawn photo leak that took place awhile back. Summit Entertainment has identified possible pirates in Argentina and has sent out a press release identifying the alleged pirate. Read more after the jump:

Summit Entertainment isn’t kidding around in its anti-piracy efforts on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The studio today took the unorthodox step of sending out a press release identifying the alleged culprit in a March hacking incident that ended with images of the highly-anticipated vampire romance film circulating on the Internet.

Summit’s release ID’s Daiana Santia of Argentina as having been involved in a group that stole photos, unfinished images and video of Breaking Dawn, which will be released in two parts beginning in November. Summit’s four-continent crusade involved the services of investigation firm Kroll Inc. and law firm Keats McFarland & Wilson, which located Santia and others in the northern Argentina town of Posadas. Civil actions have been filed in the U.S. and Argentina, along with a criminal action in Santia’s home country.

“While we very much appreciate the legions of committed fans of the franchise and encourage them to create community online, we cannot ignore that property was stolen,” says David Friedman, Summit’s executive vp and general counsel. “It is not fair to the majority of fans that want to see the final chapter of the Twilight Saga film franchise fully realized by the filmmaker and dedicated cast and crew to have these images out and available on the Internet.”

Melissa Rosenberg to Adapt ‘Earthseed’

Posted March 30th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

The Hollywood Reporter is bringing word that Twilight Saga screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg, is set to write and produce an adaptation of the young adult novel, Earthseed, for film. Read more below:

Melissa Rosenberg is set to write and produce an adaptation of the 1983 young-adult sci-fi novel Earthseed, written by Pamela Sargent. The project will launch the film side of Rosenberg’s new production company, Tall Girls Prods. Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman, who has long wanted to make a movie adaptation of the book, brought the material to Rosenberg. He will shepherd for the studio along with vp Ashley Brucks.

Earthseed takes place in a future where humans launch a project called Ship to carry Earth DNA into space to find a new planet on which to settle. During its flight, a group of newly grown teenagers born without traditional parents are provided a simulated Earth environment, Hollow, to test their ability to survive. As some of the kids splinter off, tensions grow between the groups and major revelations ensue as fighting erupts.

“It really talks about the debate of nature vs. nurture, what is innately human and what can be bred in or out of someone,” says Rosenberg. “There’s a Lord of the Flies element to it. It involves a young woman who starts off as someone who is content with playing by the rules and being a “good girl,’ and then has to realize that the rules are malleable and that she has to step forward as a leader. It’s really about coming into one’s own power and embracing one’s own strength and individuality.”

“What I want for Tall Girls is to be creating great, strong roles for women, but in four-quadrant, high-concept movies,” Rosenberg says. “Not movies for women in the traditional sense but more interesting, intriguing, complex roles—and kickass women, as well. That is definitely this book.”

Stephenie Meyer in THR’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 List

Posted December 11th, 2010 By: Evie 1 Comment »

The Hollywood Reporter has put together their 2010 Women in Entertainment Power 100 List and our favorite author, Stephenie Meyer has made the list at number 76. The list is determined, among other things, by three financial measures: 1. Revenue generated for companies; 2. valuation of assets; 3. number of employees overseen. Read more below:

#76 Stephenie Meyer

Author of the ‘Twilight’ books

Not since Judy Blume has an author so adeptly captured — and profited from — teen angst as Meyer. Her four-book Twilight series has sold more than 100 million copies and has been printed in 37 languages. In 2008, her net worth was $125 million, and Forbes estimates her annual income at $40 million. It’s hard to believe the Cave Creek, Ariz., housewife never had written so much as a short story before publishing her first book. According to Amazon, she ranks as the second-best-selling author of the decade, beaten only by Harry Potter’s J.K. Rowling. “Twihards” can enjoy Bella and Edward’s tormented love affair in a movie franchise that has grossed more than $1.7 billion worldwide, with two films yet to come. Meyer surely won’t suffer much financially going forward; her post-Twilight trilogy, starting with No. 1 New York Times best-seller The Host, is in preproduction at Nick Wechsler Prods. and is rumored to begin shooting early next year.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter Give ‘Eclipse’ Positive Reviews

Posted June 27th, 2010 By: Team Switzerland No Comments »

Reviews are slowly but surely pouring in for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and by the looks of the reviews put out by outlets Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, we have a success on our hands! Variety boasts that while hardcore fans will be pleased, non-fans will love it too! The Hollywood Reporter follows a similar path and boldly states that “it took 3 films, “The Twilight Saga” finally nails just the right tone”. Read more below: (Warning, full reviews contain spoilers)

The Hollywood Reporter Reviews The Twilight Saga: Eclipse:

It took three films, but “The Twilight Saga” finally nails just the right tone in “Eclipse,” a film that neatly balances the teenage operatic passions from Stephenie Meyer’s novels with the movies’ supernatural trappings.

Where the first film leaned heavily on camp and the second faltered through caution and slickness, “Eclipse” moves confidently into the heart of the matter — a love triangle that causes a young woman to realize choices lead to consequences that cannot be reversed.

Variety Reviews The Twilight Saga: Eclipse:

It goes without saying that the faithful will devour “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” the third movie in Stephenie Meyer’s immensely popular supernatural love-triangle saga, and also the one in which Bella must finally choose between her two beastly suitors. The pleasant surprise this time around is that the result finally feels more like the blockbuster this top-earning franchise deserves. Employing a bigger budget, better effects and an edgier director (“Hard Candy’s” David Slade), “Eclipse” focuses on what works — the stars — even as the series’ parent-friendly abstinence message begins to unravel. Summer release should reap Summit’s biggest yield yet.
