MTV Asks “Is ‘Twilight’ Really Over?”

Posted June 8th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

In light of recent comments made by Stephenie Meyer, Kristen Stewart and the now infamous Lionsgate executive, MTV is asking - “Is Twilight really over”?” See what you think of their reasoning below:

“I’ve been promoting ‘Snow White,’ and I get asked a lot of questions, especially about ‘Twilight,’ which I love. The most common one is like, ‘God, you must be so happy to get away from it. You must be so happy to just distance yourself from that as far away as you possibly can.’ I’m just like, ‘Shut up! What are you talking about?’ ”

Earlier this year, the chief executive of Lionsgate Entertainment, Jon Feltheimer, said he believes the vampire saga will remain valuable after the November 16 release of “Breaking Dawn - Part 2.” When asked if his company would helm any future “Twilight” projects, he said, “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy, I hope so.’ ”

The film company’s co-chair, Rob Friedman, also commented on the franchise’s future, telling The Hollywood Reporter Lionsgate will be onboard if author Stephenie Meyer moves forward with the saga. “If she wishes to do it,” he said, “we’ll be there to support her.”

When MTV News caught up with Meyer on the set of her latest project, “The Host,” we asked if Edward, Bella and Jacob will be brought to life again — in print or onscreen. Her answer gave hope to “Twilight” fans everywhere when she revealed she already has the characters’ futures in mind.

“Things change so much from week to week, let alone year to year. I mean, there are other stories,” she said. “I have a really hard time putting down characters, and so I know what would happen.”

The Reveals for ‘Breaking Dawn’ Made this the Best ‘Twilight’ Year Yet

Posted December 28th, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

MTV has really been compiling the year-end lists in the last couple of weeks, and now they have one more for Twilight fans. According to MTV the reveals that we got for Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and the cast interviews that went with them, have made this year the best “Twilight” year yet. Check it all out below:

We knew 2011 was going to be a big year in the world of “Twilight” news. The fanbase seemed to keep growing by the hour, as did the excitement surrounding the release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1.” The release of a new “Twilight” film also meant that we’d be seeing a lot of the blockbuster franchise’s superstars as they promoted the film — and, boy, was MTV News lucky with how much time we ended up spending with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang this year. As such, this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” is dedicated to the best and brightest of those interviews with our favorite stars.

Our first encounter with a “Twilight” star was our chat with Pattinson at the Golden Globes, during which he provided us with a giggly reaction to the first “Breaking Dawn - Part 1″ still of Bella and Edward in bed, as well as his positive reviews of Stewart playing a vampire. “It’s like she wanted to do it the entire time,” he told us. “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not. I think she’s going to do it really well.”

Christina Perri on Watching ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 1′, her New Video and her ‘Twilight’ Tattoo

Posted October 26th, 2011 By: Evie 8 Comments »

Since Christina Perri’s video debuted this morning for ‘A Thousand Years’, she’s been talking to MTV about all aspects of her involvement. Here Christina talks about her reaction to seeing Breaking Dawn - Part 1 for the first time. her epic love song to Edward and Bella and the origins of her Twilight tattoo. Check it all out below:

“When I screened the movie, it was definitely one of my favorite days ever,” she told MTV News on the set of the video for her “Breaking Dawn” track, “A Thousand Years.” “I went with all these Hollywood people, and they were there for work, and I was there for work to get inspired to write a song, but I was an über-fan, like, sitting in the front crying. And I had the best time ever.”

So did the film live up to all her expectations? “The movie was unbelievable!” she gushed. “It’s my favorite now, so I definitely had the best time ever. [It's my] favorite of the whole series. It definitely blew my mind, and I will say, I can’t say anything about it, [but] I will say that if you’re a ‘Twilight’ fan, you will be very happy, ’cause it was my favorite one.”

Perri notes that previously revealed plot points, like the wedding, honeymoon and birth scene, live up to the hype. “I think the fans are most excited about the wedding, the sex scene and then the baby, but they’re the three best parts of the book,” she said. “But everyone’s going to be really happy. I don’t know how I kept this all a secret. I respect the privacy of the gigantic franchise. Why would you want to give it away?”

“I wrote [the song] for Edward and Bella in their perspective,” Perri explained, calling the song “pretty, classical and simple.” “It’s the purest love song I think I could have possibly written. It’s about the simplest kind of love and a timeless love.

“I’ve been a really big ‘Twilight’ fan for years. For me, it just has to do most with the love story between Edward and Bella. I feel like it’s ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and they just happen to be vampires and there’s werewolves. I loved the story from day one.”

Perri said that being such a “Twilight” fan makes having her song on the soundtrack that much more meaningful. “The fact that my dream came true … still blows my mind, and I don’t think I’ve fully processed it yet, even though we’re on the set of the music video,” she said. “I feel like maybe when we’re at the premiere and I see it in the movie is when it’ll really hit me because it just seems so dream-like. I feel so honored. It feels really epic.”

Music Video Delayed for ‘Breaking Dawn’ Event with Bruno Mars’ ‘It Will Rain’

Posted October 24th, 2011 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Just last week, we told you that the music video debut for Bruno Mars’ ‘It Will Rain’, which is featured on the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn - Part 1, would debut this Wednesday. Unfortunately that’s just not just going to happen, because as Bruno updated to his fans today, the video is just not done. Instead Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ will premiere on Wednesday at 6am EST/PST on AMTV, MTV Hits and MTV.com. Read more below:

Bad news, Twilighters: You’re going to have to wait a little longer for the video for Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain,” the first single from the “Breaking Dawn - Part 1″ soundtrack.

Originally, the clip was set to premiere Wednesday night on MTV — with a special live-stream event to follow on MTV.com — but those plans have been put on hold for the foreseeable future because the video isn’t finished just yet.

Mars himself took to Twitter on Monday (October 24) to break the news about the “Rain” delay and to beg forgiveness from all the “Twilight” fans out there.

“Hey guys, I’m still working on the ‘It Will Rain’ video,” Mars wrote. “The MTV premiere will happen in a couple weeks. Be patient for ya boy. Love y’all.”

A spokesperson for Mars’ label, Atlantic Records, could not be reached for comment on the delay, and while the news is sure to disappoint “Twilight” folks, there is a new development that will surely help soften the blow: Even though “Rain” has been pushed back, there will still be a “Breaking Dawn” video premiering Wednesday for Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” a song she told MTV News she wrote specifically for the film’s star-crossed protagonists, Bella and Edward.

So fret not, “Twilight” fans. You’ll still get your fix Wednesday, October 26, when Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” video premieres at 6 a.m. ET/PT on AMTV, MTV Hits and MTV.com. And as soon as we get an update on “It Will Rain,” you’ll be the first to know about it, we promise.

Joy Formidable Soundtrack Song Contains “Turbulence” for ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 1′

Posted September 28th, 2011 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Lead singer of Joy Formidable, Ritzy Bryan, recently spoke with MTV about the band’s new contribution to the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1. It turns out that while not previous fans of the Saga, the band definitely understands the underlying themes. Check out the interview below:

“I can’t say I’ve ever read one. I haven’t seen the films either, but I have heard the soundtracks, and I was familiar with some of the songs, you know, Metric and the Black Keys,” frontwoman Ritzy Bryan told MTV News. “So I was more aware of the musical side of ‘Twilight’ than I was the books or the movies. Actually, I know very little [about the books]. I know they’re about vampires, and I know they’ve connected very much with an audience … so they’re obviously much enjoyed by a lot of people.”

And yet, despite all that, their contribution to the “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack — a ringing, downright desperate song called “Endtapes” that will be the album’s lead-off track — fits seamlessly; mostly because, as Bryan explained, it is very much about the themes that remain central to the “Twilight” series.

“The song was written at the same time as our album, and because of that, it has a lot of the tone and the feel of the album. And those songs, there’s a lot of turbulence going on, and it definitely chronicles a year that was very turbulent on one hand, but you know, it’s me trying to push for that hope and that sense of optimism,” she said. “It’s a song that captures that spirit. It’s a song about the frustration of not being able to have closure on a difficult situation.”

Turbulence is such a descriptive word. Maybe it will go where the Cullens and the wolf pack are clashing?

Where do you think this type of song will go in Breaking Dawn - Part 1?

Christina Perri Proud to be Part of ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 1′ Soundtrack with ‘A Thousand Years’

Posted September 28th, 2011 By: Evie 1 Comment »

MTV caught up with the new Breaking Dawn - Part 1 soundtrack artist, Christina Perri, and got her thoughts on being a part of everything. It turns out Christina was already a huge Twilight fan and even has a Twilight tattoo to prove it. Check out the interview below:

Perri is — to put it mildly — rather obsessed with the series, as she told MTV News on Tuesday (September 27).

“Yes, I am 1,000 percent a ‘Twilight’ fan. I can’t even deny that I am actually, in fact, a Twi-Hard and have a ‘Twilight’ tattoo,” she laughed, also revealing that she’s Team Edward. “I got a tattoo on my wrist that says ‘bitten,’ and it’s written in the font of all the book titles. So, yes, I am of one the big, geeky fans.”

For Perri, who already found success with her hit “Jar of Hearts,” landing “Breaking Dawn” was a career-defining moment, not to mention a dream come true. Especially since, until the final track list was revealed Monday, she had no idea if her song made the cut.

“I’ll never forget going to the screening of the movie. But, for me, having this opportunity is also such a wild card, because it’s Hollywood, and you never really know. … I wasn’t even sure I was going to be on it until yesterday, when I saw it in print,” she laughed. “So I tried not to get hyped out, because it’s one of my favorite movies, one of my favorite books, one of my favorite soundtracks, and that could potentially freak out the little songwriter in me.

“So I tried to put that aside and take it one step at a time, went to see the movie and cried like a baby, because it’s so good, and I felt so lucky to be there,” she continued. “And then went home and wrote a love song to Edward and Bella … and to have it be chosen, I’m unbelievably honored.”
