Robert Pattinson on ‘Cosmopolis’ Role and Being Proud of his ‘Twilight’ Fans

Posted June 27th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

Anne Facompre, a film journalist, has just posted a great interview with Robert Pattinson from back in May when he was promoting Cosmopolis in Berlin. In the interview Rob chats about his role in the movie and why he likes the character he plays. Rob also goes on to talk about why he was drawn to the role, and why he’s so proud of his very literate Twilight fans. Read more below:

How was it for you to play such a dark character after ‘Twilight’?

The very first thing I shot, I wanted it to be a no statement thing, the suit, the hair, everything. It’s like: Your clothes don’t say anything, your car doesn’t say anything. Nothing says anything. And YOU don’t say anything and it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. I was turning around to Jay Baruchel in the first scene and you realize your face isn’t doing anything, you have no eyes (because of the dark sunglasses). It’s nerve racking.

How do you feel about all those 15 year old fans camping outside the premiere venue?Do you feel like twilight is a shadow that you just can’t shake or are you just really happy that they’re there supporting you?

It’s amazing. If they go and see the movie - it’s crazy. A lot of ‘Twilight’ fans are not only excited about seeing it, but if they feel they don’t understand it, they WANT to understand it. A ton of people have bought Don Delillo’s books and I’ve talked to people who are like 16 years old and they have read ‘Cosmopolis’ and ‘Underworld’ and a lot of DeLillo stuff and it is absolutely amazing. This is probably the best thing I have done since I’ve started acting! (To inspire fans to read Don DeLillo). And they have watched all of David’s movies and even if there’s a hundred people who don’t understand what’s happening, there will be one who really, really understands it and not being crazy or anything, but it’s a life changing thing. It’s an inspiring thing when you suddenly get into post-modern literature. It’s crazy, to inspire someone to read DeLillo at a really young age.. I don’t know what else could inspire them. I never even read any of his work before and now I have read tons of it. And meeting him as well, I think he is the greatest guy, he is amazing. He was with us on the tour up until now. I hadn’t met him before. But I really like him. He is quite different to what I thought he would be. He is quite funny and really direct. And he knows a lot about movies. And I am just so amazed that there is people lining up and screaming about it. It’s hilarious.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson on the 2012 PopSugar 100

Posted June 26th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

The famous PopSugar 100 has been released for 2012, and this year Kristen Stewart made the list all the way up at #3, while Robert Pattinson came in close behind at #5. Read on below for more:

3. Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart hasn’t slowed down. Her Summer in 2011 was all about training for her fairy-tale role in Snow White and the Huntsman and talking up Breaking Dawn Part 1 with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner at Comic-Con. Kristen’s many projects put her in the spotlight over the next few months with covers on W magazine, GQ, and Glamour. In the Fall, Kristen juggled promotions for the Twilight installment, which came to a head at her Hollywood handprint ceremony. Breaking Dawn Part 1 finally hit the big screen with huge success, helping Kristen wrap up an awesome year.

The fun didn’t stop for the star, though, as she traveled to Paris in the New Year to shoot a Vanity Fair spread with Karl Lagerfeld. Kristen kept up the overseas excitement with a visit to Fashion Week, where she checked out the Balenciaga show and the new Louis Vuitton exhibit. In March, Kristen was on the go with Charlize Theron for SWATH before meeting up with Rob at Coachella in April. Her major red carpet moment came when she hit the Met Gala in Balenciaga, a brand she’s representing. Her gorgeous appearances continued at Cannes with her On the Road cast. In June, SWATH rocked the box office, rounding out an awesome year for Kristen.

5. Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson was busy on the Toronto set of Cosmopolis for much of last Summer, though he did break to do Twilight press at Comic-Con and the Teen Choice Awards. In the Fall, Rob traveled between Canada, LA, and London, where he visited girlfriend Kristen Stewart on the set of Snow White and the Huntsman. Rob hit the road with Ashley Greene to promote Breaking Dawn Part 1 and was honored with a Hollywood handprint ceremony before the film’s big premiere and November release.

Rob rang in 2012 in LA, where he made his first public appearance of the year at the People’s Choice Awards. Next, he was on to red carpet stops for Bel Ami before landing back on the West Coast to celebrate the Oscars with Kristen Stewart. In March, the couple spent a romantic weekend in Paris before Rob showed off his shirtless body while surfing in Malibu at the beginning of April. In May, Rob celebrated his 26th birthday and stepped out on the red carpet at Cannes for Cosmopolis.

Robert Pattinson Talks Quitting Smoking with Some Help from Attentive Fans

Posted June 15th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

GQ UK has a new interview with Robert Pattinson as he works to open his movie, Cosmopolis, across the world. Here Rob talks about a very special book from a Twilight fan, his new hip-hop fame, quitting smoking (with some help from his fans), and why everyone needs some Gucci in their life. Read more below:

What’s the strangest gift you’ve got from a fan?

It’s funny: there are certain things that get picked up on really quickly. I quit smoking the other day and didn’t even really realise that I’d said anything about it. I’ve been chewing these f***ing toothpicks all the time. Someone noticed in Cannes and literally the next day in Lisbon, then in Paris and in Berlin there were about 20 people on the red carpet giving me huge amounts of toothpicks. Thousands of them. I don’t even remember saying it in an interview but I must have said it somewhere. That was kind of strange.

Robert Pattinson Defends His ‘Twilight’ Supporters

Posted June 13th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

In addition to that great interview with The Guardian, Robert Pattinson also recently spoke with BBC News. Here Rob talks a bit more about Cosmopolis and why he thinks his Twilight fans will like it. Rob also goes on to defend his many Twilight supporters, giving them credit for being much smarter than the press makes them look. Read more below:

Actor Robert Pattinson has predicted that his new art-house film Cosmopolis will be embraced by Twilight fans.

“Some of them will just want you to play vampires, but most people don’t want you to repeat yourself,” the Briton told the BBC.

The heart-throb, who played Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, also defended his fans from accusations that their dedicated behaviour was “crazy”.

Asked what his Twilight fanbase would make of the film, the 26-year-old star said: “I think a lot of them will really connect to it. Over the years, people kind of get an idea of what you’re trying to do.

“Some of them will follow - some of them will just want you to play vampires, but most people don’t want you to repeat yourself. So hopefully they’ll like it.”

Twilight fans, he suggested, had come in for unfair criticism.

“People put down Twilight fans, but yesterday I got given on the red carpet in Berlin all these books from people who are lined up in the rain and are probably judged by everyone to be crazy.

“I got a signed first edition of the Martin Amis book, Money; a Lawrence Ferlinghetti book; the new [Michel] Houellebecq book. All these people come up and give what they’ve been reading and found interesting. This is not giving you teddy bears!”

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Win “Best Kiss” for the 4th Straight Year at the MTV Movie Awards

Posted June 3rd, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

They’ve done it again, and it looks like this could be one record that’s pretty hard to break. For the fourth straight year, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have won the award for “Best Kiss” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, this time as Bella and Edward in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1. The only problem seemed to be that we were missing a certain Rob to accept the award with Kristen, since he already had prior promotional duties to do for Cosmopolis. But we can always, always trust Kristen to come up with something clever…..

Pattinson couldn’t attend the awards ceremony due to prior commitments for his upcoming film “Cosmopolis,” suggesting an interesting acceptance speech smooch solution for co-star Stewart.

“I think Kristen is going, so she’s going to kiss herself if she wins,” he said with a grin.

And, well, that’s sort of what Stewart did. After taking the stage and asking for a succession of co-stars, including “Snow White and the Huntsman” actors Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron and “Twilight” hunk Taylor Lautner, to come help her out, Stewart turned her back to the audience and mimed a steamy make-out all by herself.

She kept her actual acceptance speech short and sweet: “Thanks, guys, this really means a lot. Thank you, guys, very much for giving us Best Kiss again. Thank you.”

You did it Twilighters! That took some serious devotion to voting to keep the “Best Kiss” category this year.

Robert Pattinson Talks a Little ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 2′ at Cannes

Posted May 28th, 2012 By: Evie No Comments »

Robert Pattinson has had a very busy week as he worked to promote and premiere his newest film, Cosmopolis, at the Cannes Film Festival. In addition Rob also showed up at the Festival to support co-star Kristen Stewart’s film On The Road. Here we have a little soundbite that Rob gave, as reported by Toronto.com, where Rob gives us his thoughts on the changing world for Breaking Dawn - Part 2, and how it’s already starting with those new posters. Read more below:

Pattinson said Part 2 will be quite different from Part 1, beginning with the newly released posters, which show individual characters instead of group scenes. The posters have solo shots of Pattinson and also Kristen Stewart, his real-life girlfriend who plays his newly transformed vampire bride Bella in Breaking Dawn.

“I’m excited about the last book coming out because it’s quite different,” Pattinson said.

“Even the posters. I just saw the posters the other day and . . . suddenly there’s a different look. Because all our posters have been exactly the same, until the last one. It’s crazy. I kind of like them.”

Breaking Dawn—Part 2 breaks new ground for the series, too.

“The movie is funny as well, which is weird.

“It’s strange. I guess the first one was quite body horror-y (and) creepy.

“This one is so odd, that it becomes kind of funny. Now that Bella’s not human, they’re just on Mars now. Everyone in it is a lunatic!”
