Trailers for ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and ‘Bad Teacher’ Mention ‘Twilight’

Posted June 2nd, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

There are two new trailers on the web and TV that both have little Twilight mentions in them! The first one, Crazy, Stupid, Love, has actress Julianne Moore telling her estranged husband that she went to see the latest Twilight movie alone, and it was bad! In addition you might recognize the song ‘Starlight’ by Muse in the background. The second one is Bad Teacher and at the very end we see the gym teacher throwing a ball to a kid and calling him “Twilight” (the kid does look like a mini-Edward Cullen). Check out the trailers for Crazy, Stupid, Love and Bad Teacher below:

(Thanks Noor!)

Aww, the first mention, while still kind of a funny mention was rather mean. The second one I liked much better, and honestly that kid was pretty Edward Cullen looking!

Had you seen these trailers yet? Did you pick up the Twilight mentions right away?

‘Twilight’ and the Enduring Draw of Young Adult Fiction

Posted May 31st, 2011 By: Evie No Comments »

The Atlantic has a great article that looks at a few of the most popular book series in YA Fiction, and then looks at what about them draws so many people in. They make the point that a lot of YA Fiction has changed, and become darker with the characters going through some truly horrific trials. Not only do these new books appeal to the YA audience, but they have a strong adult following as well. Read more below:

The young adult series that are so popular and profitable today are a little too dark for mere nostalgia. Authors and directors have struck chords with audiences by putting their teenage heroes through terrible trials. Harry Potter gives his life over to an epic struggle against international terrorism. Bella Swan may end up a sparkly, sexy vampire with preternatural self-control, but she has to suffer a fetus eating its way out of her body first. The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen has to fight for her life in an arena, see her first love whipped, lose her sister, see her second love brainwashed, and be a pawn in a revolution. Ender is repeatedly and savagely attacked, tortured by his own brother, and manipulated by the military—before he kills off an entire alien species. The heroes of Legend are going to be an adolescent bounty hunter and vigilante.

That’s a lot to put characters—especially characters we love dearly, fiercely—through before they reach their maturity. It’s true we live in a time when teenaged years seem less than carefree. Whether it’s the pressure of grades and college admissions, the expanded reach of bullying in a social media age, the temptations and distractions of the Internet, or periodic adult panics about teenagers’ sexual behavior, adolescence sometimes seems as if it’s vanished, as if we’ve returned to a time when childhood ended shortly out of the cradle. Hijinks like the family dramas of the Baby-sitters Club members or even the high-consequence drug use, plane accidents, and relationship angst of Sweet Valley High don’t seem especially shocking in comparison. It takes national peril to put the difficulties of everyday life back in perspective.

At the same time, at a moment when our politics seem crippled, the prospect of an unexpected savior is appealing. Fictional teenage heroes are unencumbered by adult obligations and rigidities, they can afford to be ideologically poor. We are redeemed by Harry Potter’s martyrdom and salvation, something that would be horrifying and tragic in life. Katniss Everdeen can kill to enforce her convictions and go unpunished for it: the death she caused can have a clarifying effect on the adults around her. In Twilight, Bella Swan’s suffering purifies her and makes her influential in the community of vampires she joins even to the point of helping prevent a war. Ender Wiggin can exterminate a threat to humanity and repent for his actions, shifting attitudes towards aliens along the way.

Young adult fiction offers a promise to all of us that there is no suffering that’s not worth it, no agony that goes unrewarded down the line.

Michael Sheen Reads ‘Twilight’ Fan Fiction - ‘Unexpected Circumstances’

Posted May 26th, 2011 By: Evie 2 Comments »

Are you a fan of the Twilight fan fiction that’s out there on the web? If you are, I’m guessing you’re familiar with Savage 7289, she’s the author of a few stories and all of them are incredibly well written. Well this morning Michael Sheen made an appearance on VH1′s ‘Big Morning Buzz’ where he read from Savage’s story, Unexpected Circumstances. The reading was quite dramatic thanks to Michael, and if you love a good original story, I highly recommend it. The Twilight names will make it familiar, but the Medieval theme and storyline are all new!

I know I must sound like a broken record, but how much more awesome can Michael Sheen get? I love that he humored the entire Twilight fan universe by reading some fan fiction. He is such a sweetie! In addition, I don’t read much fan fiction myself, but I have a special spot in my heart for all of Savage7289′s work. She just uses the familiarity of the names from Twilight and turns out completely original, exciting stories. I highly recommend all of Savage’s work!

How Does the New ‘Breaking Dawn’ Poster Rank With Past ‘Twilight’ Teasers?

Posted May 25th, 2011 By: Evie 7 Comments »

We’ve finally received a new teaser poster for Breaking Dawn Part One and now MTV wants to know just how you feel about the new poster and how you think it compares to past teaser poster for Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Check it all out below:

Breaking Dawn Part One teaser poster

2008: “Twilight”

The poster that started it all! Robert Pattinson’s pale, chiseled profile hovers in the blackness above Kristen Stewart, who looks like a baby, OMG. Those cheeks! So young! Adorbs!

2009: “New Moon”

Nothing could ever come between Bella and Edward… except Taylor Lautner’s butt! Which, of course, he presents to the audience as he makes himself a sandwich out of the would-be lovers—keeping the two safely apart and giving us a world-class back view to boot.

2010: “Eclipse”

Oh movie, how you tease us. Instead of showing us the actors we’ve come to know and love, this poster introduced the whole “floating words over weather phenomenon” trend with the movie’s title interposed over…wait for it… an eclipse.

Tell us which one you like and then go check out more at MTV here.

Which poster do you think was the best teaser for the movie? Which do you just like best?

Cullen Home Part of “20 Movie Homes You Can Live In”

Posted May 25th, 2011 By: Evie 1 Comment »

Total Film has made a pretty cool list of 20 movie homes that you (or anyone) could live in, and the Cullen house from Twilight made the cut. While some houses such as the Swan home are only the shell of a house, the Cullen house used in Twilight was actually a real home! Now technically you can’t actually live in it because it already has a resident, but we can dream right? Check out more below:

Twilight (2008)

The House: Super-cool, super-stylish digs owned by the Cullen family of vampires. In real life, it’s owned by Nike footwear designer John Hoke.

The Movie: Faint-inducing adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s first Twilight novel, starring dreamboat Robert Pattinson as a twinkly good vampire who doesn’t eat people – unless they really deserve it. Which is why he refuses to – uh – eat Bella, who bites her lip a lot in response.

If We Lived There: We’d hire a CSI team to find all of R-Pattz fingerprints throughout the house, then frame them. We’re odd like that.

See the full list at Total Film here.

Would you like to live in the Cullen home?

Bella’s Dress from ‘Twilight’ Makes List of Most Memorable Prom Dresses

Posted May 24th, 2011 By: Evie 3 Comments »

It must just be that time of year when people really have prom on the brain. MTV has gone a step further than naming the most memorable movie proms, and instead have made a list of the 12 most memorable movie prom dresses. Bella’s dress from Twilight, worn of course by the beautiful Kristen Stewart, has made their list at #6. Check out more below:

The Role: Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan

Costume Designer: Wendy Chuck

The Dress: Oh man, I love that after almost getting killed a whole bunch, Bella and Edward from Twilight still get to go to prom. Bella’s gorgeous royal blue, tiered, ruched, deep-V, midi-length dress complements her Converse and her leg cast, and the cream of her soft, vintage, embroidered cashmere cardigan with the satin trimmed contoured edges softens the bold hue. Edward is also nothing to sneeze at. In fact, he is something to cling at. While sobbing. And begging him to bite your neck even if in IRL he’s just some shy, pale British dude.

Read the full list at MTV here.

(Thanks Noor!)

I’m a huge fan of Bella’s blue prom dress, I love that color so much!

What do you think of Bella’s Twilight prom dress? Do you agree with it’s place on this list?
